All About Etcom

What is the etcom file? All data downloaded from the terminal into the TCMSv2 software is stored in the terminal data audit list and the etcom file.
When the data is downloaded from the terminal, the data will go into the etcom file. Once the data is downloaded into the etcom file, the TCMSv2 software will then calculate the amount of data inside the etcom file to match the amount of data inside the terminal. If it tallies, the terminal will clear all the data inside the terminal. If the data does not tally, the software will prompt an error for the customer to check the terminal.

The downloaded data will then be stored in the Terminal Data List of the TCMSv2 software. Using the downloaded data, users can then configure the Attendance sheet and view or print the Reports.

The etcom file is located at c:\Program Files\FingerTec Worldwide\TCMSv2\etcom. After you have located the file, you will need to open the file with Notepad.

Let’s take a look inside the file. There are so many transactions in the file. How do we read the transactions? You may breakdown the code as below:

000010407120916580000000011022ß…

  • TTTTT - Terminal ID is 010
  • DDMMYY - Date is 04/07/12
  • hhmmss - Time is 09:16:58
  • UUUUUUUUU - user ID is 000000001
  • The 25th digit “1” is for In and “0” is for out.
  • AA - work code is 02
  • The 28th digit is verify type, “0” is for password, “1” is for fingerprint.

The etcom file will also display the data downloaded date and time. Besides that, it will also display the total amount of log transaction downloaded.

Etcom Errors

If you encountered this error, it means your fptaudit.dbf file is corrupted. To solve this error it will involve deleting the fptaudit.dbf file and all the data in the terminal data audit list will be gone. To download the data to the TCMSv2 software, please follow the steps below:
  1. Go to C:\\ Program Files > FingerTec Worldwide > TCMSv2 > etcom and copy the _etcom file.
  2. Then paste the _etcom file into the remote folder inside the TCMSv2 folder.
  3. Start up the TCMSv2 software, go to Attendance and click Download.
  4. The system will download the raw clocking data from the _etcom file.
  5. After the process is completed, the system will delete the file that you paste in the remote folder.

If you accidentally restored the previous backup database and the database has been replaced with the old data:

If you accidentally downloaded the transaction data into another computer, you will need to merge the data into the TCMSv2 software.
  1. At the wrongly downloaded data computer, Go to C:\\ Program Files > FingerTec Worldwide > TCMSv2 > etcom and copy the _etcom file and store it to a USB pendrive.
  2. Transfer the _etcom file into the remote folder inside the TCMSv2 folder computer that you want to merge with.
  3. Start up the TCMSv2 software, go to Attendance and click Download.
  4. The system will download the raw clocking data from the _etcom file.
  5. After the process is completed, the system will delete the file that you paste in the remote folder.

A New Wall Plate for an Improved R2 Installation

Apart from the solid system specifications and smooth system implementation, neat installation of biometrics terminal is one aspect that FingerTec resellers/installers should pay attention to.  Generally, customers expect neat installations of FingerTec system at their offices and it is the job of FingerTec partners to deliver the expectation to the customers.

Based on feedback received from various installers, FingerTec is pleased to introduce a new wall plate for an improved R2 installation. Previously, installations of R2 would require hacking of walls to hide wires and cables; a necessary task but not easy. Therefore, to ease the installation, FingerTec is going to provide an additional wall plate at 10mm thickness with every purchase of R2 in the future.

This new wall plate provides sufficient room for installers to hide the wires and LAN cables, without the need to cut through walls or hack them and it comes with 4 ready-to-break ports on all of its four sides. By having the wall plate, installation of R2 would not only become simpler, it would also look better for the customers.

To use the wall plate, press the readily available ports to make a hole allowing wires and cables to pass through to be joined with the wall casing.

Mount the wall plate onto a wall and tighten all the screws.

Wi-Fi & LAN Connection Conflict

Wi-Fi, short for “wireless fidelity”, is a mechanism for wirelessly connecting electronic devices. It is also one of the most popular wireless communication standards on the market today.

FingerTec took this opportunity to utilize and implement the Wi-Fi technology to its multimedia models. With this connection type facilitating the terminal, syncing of data can now be done without any wiring hassle.

To connect a FingerTec terminal to a WiFi LAN (WLAN), you can choose to use:

  1. WEP
  2. WEP Share
  3. WPA - AES
  4. WPA TKIP
You can also use the FT Tool to configure the terminal’s Wi-Fi settings.

For terminals with the Wi-Fi function, users may choose to connect to the computer with either Wi-Fi or LAN connection. Please take note that the Wi-Fi IP address must not be the same as the local area networks IP address. This will cause a conflict and the connection will not be established. Please refer to the diagram below for a better understanding.

FingerTec Firmware Update

The latest firmware for TA100, TA103R, Timeline 100, TA100C, AC100, AC100C, I-Kiosk 100 (FEM 600), I-Kiosk 100 Plus (FEM 600), Q2i & TA200 Plus (FEM 600), M2 and R2 is now ready for download.
To download, click here.

NEW FEATURES AND UPDATES

1. Webster & TimeTec Enabled
The firmware is updated with the Webster & TimeTec function. This will enable the terminal to be compatible with Webster & TimeTec. However the terminal cannot be immediately used with Webster or TimeTec. Users will need to register with FingerTec and we will provide you with a firmware to update the terminal upon registration. For steps on how to obtain the TimeTec firmware, please refer to the FingerTec Technical Newsletter (http://www.fingertectips.com/2011/11/fingertec-timetec-trial-version.html) for more information.

Model Involved: TA100, TA103R, Timeline 100, TA100C, AC100, AC100C, I-Kiosk 100 (FEM 600), I-Kiosk 100 Plus (FEM 600), Q2i & TA200 Plus (FEM 600), M2 and R2

2. Different USB data output for both Black & White Screen Model and Multimedia Model.
We have recently released a new fingerprint algorithm, BioBridge VX10.0. (http://www.fingertec.com/newsletter/Aug2011/FN-01.html) As you may already know, the new algorithm speeds up the fingerprint verification process of the terminal and it maximizes the fingerprint templates capacity to 10,000 for any multimedia model with FEM 600 core board only.

With the new firmware, you may transfer the fingerprint templates using the USB pen drive directly into another terminal. To transfer the fingerprint templates using the USB pen drive, go to the Pen Drive Management at the terminal, insert the pen drive and select Download User. After the download is completed, remove the pen drive and insert to the other intended terminal. Go to the Pen Drive Management and select Upload User.

The FingerTec black and white display terminals only supports fingerprint BioBridge VX 9.0 algorithm. You can transfer fingerprints using the USB pen drive among the black and white display terminals but not to the multimedia terminals, which runs on the BioBridge VX 10.0 algorithm. To upload BioBridge VX9.0 algorithm fingerprint templates to a multimedia terminal, you will have to configure the multimedia terminal into BioBridge VX 9.0 algorithm before you can proceed with the transfer. In event that you would like to enroll the fingerprint using a multimedia terminal and later transfer the fingerprint template to a black and white display terminal, you will need to configure the multimedia terminal into BioBridge VX 9.0 before you start to enroll the fingerprint.

Please take note that the BioBridge VX10.0 algorithm cannot be mixed and matched with fingerprint templates from BioBridgeVX9.0 algorithm. The templates derived from the BioBridge VX9.0 will prompt an error during the verification period if it were uploaded to the terminal via the BioBridge VX10.0 or vice versa.

Model Involved: TA100C, AC100C, I-Kiosk 100 (FEM 600), I-Kiosk 100 Plus (FEM 600) and Q2i & TA200 Plus (FEM 600).

3. Customized External Siren’s Minimum Ring Period To 30 Seconds.
The FingerTec TA100C and TA200 Plus model comes with an external siren or a scheduled bell feature. Configuration of time settings can be done in terminal prior to connecting it to any bell system with an independent power supply. Once the time is configured, the terminal would trigger the bells at the specific times.
From the previous firmware, we know that external siren’s minimum ring period is 15 seconds. With the new firmware, we change the external siren’s minimum ring period to 3 seconds.
To set configure the external siren’s ring period setting, please press Menu > System > Misc Set > Bell.
Model Involved: TA100C and TA200 Plus.
